November 24, 2011 - WADA succeeded in spreading the anti-doping message to hundreds of athletes, coaches and sports officials during its debut Outreach program at the recent Parapan American Games in Mexico.

The three-strong Outreach team was in operation for the first week of the Games and succeeded in reaching most of the 1,500 competitors who had gathered in Guadalajara from 26 different countries.

“We enjoyed excellent co-operation with the IPC’s Anti-Doping Committee and Medical & Scientific Director Dr. Peter Van de Vliet, and the Outreach program was hugely beneficial to everyone involved,” said WADA Communications Coordinator Catherine Coley, who was heading up the Outreach team.

“Even those athletes who knew little about WADA had a good knowledge about anti-doping, which suggests that the message is getting out there.

“I was impressed by the athletes’ overall eagerness to learn more about anti-doping and look forward to meeting many of them again at the Paralympics in London next year and when the Parapans are staged in Toronto in 2015.”

As with the Outreach programs at the All Africa Games in Mozambique earlier in the year and the Pan American Games, the soccer challenge and Play True Quiz again proved especially popular with visitors to the Outreach centre in Guadalajara.
