19 Jun 2012, Haiyang, China: The Chairman of the Olympic Council of Asia’s Medical Committee, Dr. M. Jegathesan, reports that the first 50 samples from athletes at the 3rd Asian Beach Games have all proved negative. Speaking on Tuesday evening, after the third full day of competition in the June 16-22 Games, Dr Jegathesan said the OCA’s anti-doping commission planned to carry out around 300 tests, including 30 pre- or post-competition.
“We are having a robust anti-doping programme in line with the OCA and WADA regulations, as we did at the two previous Asian Beach Games,” said Dr Jega. “So far we have the complete results of the first 50 tests from the first two or three days and I am happy to report that all of them tested negative.
We have passed the halfway mark of the Games and have tested around 150 athletes.” The urine tests are sent to a WADA-sanctioned laboratory in Beijing and the results of negative samples are known in 24 hours.
