July 13, 2012 - UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has found an innovative way to increase anti-doping awareness amongst its national Olympic and Paralympic teams thanks to the help of a red rubber duck.
UKAD officials succeeded in having ‘Squeaky’ the duck included in Team GB’s official kit for London 2012, and its inclusion made national news at the team’s official kitting out sessions which started in late June.
GB’s Paralympic athletes will receive a Squeaky duck in their kits this weekend.
Squeaky is the latest element in UKAD’s 100% Me anti-doping awareness campaign and is designed to allow athletes to show their commitment to clean sport.
“We were delighted Squeaky was included in the Team GB kits bags, and surprised by the amount of interest from the press,” said UKAD Director of Communications and Education Nicola Newman.
“Squeaky is intended to be fun and light-hearted, but as part of the 100% Me campaign it also carries a serious anti-doping message and allows athletes to express their support for clean competition.”
