19 SEP 2012, Manama, Bahrain: The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) hosted a seminar on anti-doping at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association in Riffa. The Chairman of the Bahrain Anti-Doping Committee, Dr Hussain Al Haddad, highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to all agreements signed with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Thus, Bahrain has become an active member within WADA and the Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADO) for the GCC and Yemen. Dr Al Haddad stressed the importance of the seminar in shaping the future of Bahrain’s athletes in different disciplines. He also spoke of the dangers of doping and how to avoid it.

The seminar was attended by representatives of national sports association as well as sports clubs under the umbrella of the BOC. Following a question and answer session, Dr Al Haddad distributed a booklet printed specially for this occasion.

One of the most significant achievements in the fight against doping has been the drafting, acceptance and implementation of a harmonised set of anti-doping rules, the World Anti-Doping Code.

The Code works in conjunction with five International Standards aimed at harmonising anti-doping organisations in various areas: testing, laboratories, Therapeutic Use Exemption, the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods, and the protection of privacy and personal information.

These five standards have been the subject of lengthy consultation among WADA’s stakeholders and are mandatory for all signatories of the Code.
