WADA urges vigilance over Deer Antler Velvet Spray

February 5, 2013 - Following a number of inquiries regarding the supplement Deer Antler Spray, WADA has issued the following statement:

Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) is prohibited under S2.4 of the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.

Deer Antler Velvet Spray may contain IGF-1 and WADA recommends therefore that athletes be extremely vigilant with this supplement because it could lead to a positive test.

There can be no guarantee that IGF-1 taken orally will not influence the plasma level of IGF-1, which may then influence the result of anti-doping tests.

For more advice and information regarding medication or supplements, athletes are advised to contact their national anti-doping organization or international federation.
