MONTREAL, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The World Anti-Doping Agency Friday suspended the Rio de Janeiro laboratory which was expected to analyze urine and blood samples during the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics Games.

WADA said the suspension became effective as of Aug. 8 without revealing which requirements the lab failed to reach to lose the accreditation.

But WADA executive committee could decide on "possible revocation" of the Rio center's accreditation.

In 2012, the lab was barred from performing isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) tests for nine months after falsely accusing a Brazilian beach volleyball player of doping with testosterone.
