24 Jan 2014, Kuwait: The 3rd Regional Anti-Doping Organization Conference, hosted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in cooperationwith the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), was officially closed in Kuwait City on Friday.

The delegates, which included representatives from all 15 RADOs as well as the Continental NOC Associations, agreed on several outcomes, including:

WADA to continue to support and assist with the development of the RADOs.

RADOs and WADA to establish partnerships with key stakeholders, including Continental National Olympic Committee Associations and International Federations.

Strengthen the buy-in and support to the RADOs from Governments and NOCs.

Prioritize activities to ensure all RADO member countries are in compliance with the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code.

Build RADO capacity and expertise through continued training and sharing of knowledge.

Work towards establishing each RADO as a legal entity.

The RADOs to collectively work together to strengthen their global impact in the fight against doping in sport.

Ensure effective anti-doping education programs are being implemented, with a particular focus on values-based education for youth.

The Mahmoud Ali Khalifah Award was presented for the first time to Ms Nadiah Al Shamali, Director General of the Gulf States and Yemen RADO and Manager of the OCA Anti-Doping Department, and to Mrs Natanya Potoi-Ulia, Executive Officer of the Oceania RADO.

Mahmoud, former Director of the OCA Anti-Doping Department, was instrumental in the fight against doping in sport in Asia, and in particular in the establishment and development of the five Asian RADOs. He passed away suddenly in 2011 but his legacy lives on.

Based on the outcomes of the Conference, WADA will now develop strategies to ensure the RADO Program continues to develop and the 123 countries who are involved in the 15 RADOs are able to work together to implement effective anti-doping programs.
