SOCHI, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Italian bobsledder William Frullani has failed a doping test at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said on Friday.

"The Olympic Committee was informed by the IOC that the bobsleigh athlete William Frullani, has tested positive for dymetylpentylamine in a test carried out at the Olympic Village on February 18," the CONI said in a statement on its official website.

It added, "The athlete asked for a second test to be carried out, which was done this afternoon and was confirmed positive, and this has determined his exclusion from the Italian delegation.

"The athlete was immediately dropped from the team and left the Olympic Village. CONI now needs to sort out the composition of the bobsleigh team which Frullani was part of, to make it back up to 4. They have requested that the athlete be replaced with the reserve Samuele Romanini and clearance for this has been received from the IOC."

Frullani has been scheduled to compete in the four-man event on Saturday and Sunday.

It is the second known doping case at the Sochi Games. The German Olympic Committee said earlier that one of its athletes has failed a test.
