KINGSTON, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Jamaican sprinter Sherone Simpson received an 18-month ban from her sport career on Tuesday following her positive doping test last June.

A three-member Jamaica anti-doping panel made the decision with consensus that Simpson should pay for her negligence in all the circumstances as an elite athlete.

Simpson and her training partner, former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell, tested positive for banned substance oxilofrine at last year's national championships.

During a hearing this January, Simpson insisted that she was not a "cheat" and testified that she believed one of six supplements provided by trainer Christopher Xuereb of Canada was responsible for her positive test.

The 29-year-old Olympic 4x100m-relay gold and 100m silver medalist said she was familiar with most of the supplements received from Xuereb except the Epiphany D1 on which she researched online for several hours but nothing she found raised "a red flag or an alarm bell".

Starting from June 21, 2013, Simpson's 18-month suspension will come to the end on December 20 this year, while Powell will learn his fate on Thursday.
