Syrian karate athlete fails doping test, 5th case at Asiad

INCHEON, South Korea, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Syrian karate athlete Nour Aldin Al Kurdi was tested positive for doping and has been disqualified from the Asian Games, said the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on Wednesday. 

Thus, Al Kurdi became the fifth athelete caught of doping so far at the 17th Asian Games which will run through Oct.4. 

Al Kurdi was found in his urine sample, collected on Sept. 25, of containing clenbuterol, a non-specified substance under category S1.2 anabolic agents of the prohibited list 2014 of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).  

On Tuesday, two doping cases were announced as weightlifer Mohammed al Aifuri of Iraq, who finished seventh in the men's +105kg category, and Malaysian wushu gold medalist Tai Cheau Xuen were disqualified from the Asian Games by the OCA after their urine samples tested positive for banned substances. 

Al Aifuri was found to contain an exogenous origin of Etiocholanolone (Etio) and Androsterone (A), and Tai was tested positive for sibutramine.  

The first doping case was reported on Sept. 24 when Tajik footballer Khurshed Beknazarov was disqualified after being tested positive for a banned stimulant.  

On Sept. 25, Cambodian soft tennis player Yi Sophany was found to contain sibutramine in her urine specimen and disqualified from the Games.
