Tokyo prepares to host Second International Pharmaceutical Conference

December 17, 2014 - Tokyo is preparing to host the Second International Conference on the Pharmaceutical Industry and the Fight against Doping just six weeks from now.

The 28 January conference - which follows on from the ground-breaking inaugural event in Paris in November 2012 - is titled New Developments for Clean Sport and Society. Representatives from across the pharmaceutical and anti-doping communities will convene with the goal of collaborating to restrict the abuse of licensed and unlicensed medicines thus further protecting the rights of clean athletes.

The Conference will be co-hosted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japanese Government (MEXT), the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) and UNESCO, and will involve discussions on a number of topics, including:

• Societal and economic risks of doping

• Challenges in anti-doping and the role of the Biopharmaceutical Industry

• Collaborative perspectives for the Biopharmaceutical Industry and anti-doping authorities in the future

WADA Director of Science, Dr. Olivier Rabin: “The first Pharmaceutical Conference took place in Paris just over two years ago, and was considered a huge success by all those who attended.

“The relationship between the anti-doping and pharmaceutical industries is becoming ever-more-closely linked, as we look to advanced information sharing techniques as a means to ensure we stay ahead of the cheats and are able to protect the rights of the clean athletes. We look forward to welcoming representatives from both communities to Tokyo next month.”
