April 27, 2015 - WADA seized the opportunity provided by the 2015 SportAccord Convention in Sochi, Russia last week to discuss the implementation and practice of the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code (Code) with International Sports Federations (IFs).

The Director of WADA’s European Regional Office and IF Relations, Frédéric Donzé, used a series of presentations to outline the changes to the Code that took effect at the beginning of this year, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the IFs in its implementation and the support resources made available by WADA. He presented to the general assemblies and annual meetings of the umbrella organizations of Summer Olympic IFs (ASOIF), Winter Olympic IFs (AIOWF) and IOC-recognized IFs (ARISF), in addition to the International World Games Association (IWGA). Along with WADA Standards & Harmonization Manager, George Tsamis, Donzéalso held individual meetings with a number of IFs and other organizations including the Commonwealth Games Federation, and partook in a workshop organized by SportAccord’s Doping Free Sport Unit about the role of National Sports Federations in anti-doping.

“Maintaining close relations with all parties plays an essential part in ensuring we are able to effectively protect the clean athletes,” said Donzé, repeating the words of WADA President Sir Craig Reedie at the 2014 SportAccord Convention. “IFs have a central role to play in protecting the integrity of sport, and WADA will continue to provide them support to ensure the full potential of the revised Code is put into practice.”

On Thursday, as part of the Convention, WADA and the Association of Recognized International Federations held the second ARISF-WADA Anti-Doping Coaching & Training Session. This joint initiative featured a series of discussions and presentations from IF anti-doping practitioners and WADA representatives focusing on a variety of areas including education, doping risk assessment, smart testing and the new Technical Document for Sport Specific Analysis (TDSSA).

“This second ARISF-WADA anti-doping workshop was another success,” said Donzé. “It allowed recognized IFs, WADA and other anti-doping stakeholders to share experience and ideas in an open and stimulating fashion. WADA is grateful to ARISF for this partnership and looks forward to repeating this session in the future.”
