In preparation for the upcoming Asian Women's Basketball Championship scheduled for June, the Chinese women's basketball team had its first training session at the Beijing National Sports Training Centre on March 29 under the guidance of its new head coach Tom Maher from Australia.

Tom Maher, who replaces Gong Luming as head coach of the Chinese women's basketball team, said he's familiar with Chinese basketball and is ready to lead the team to a new level.

Two weeks ago, the Chinese Basketball Association announced that Maher, former head coach of the New Zealand women's team, had been appointed the new manager of the Chinese team, who lost to New Zealand 79-77 and missed the top eight at the Athens Olympic Games. (Photo CS-Online Liu Yaru)
