MIANYANG, Southwest China, Nov. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Zou Shiming powered his way into the history books after capturing the light-fly weight title at the 13th World Boxing Championships here on Sunday.

Zou thrashed Hungary’s Pal Bedak 31-13 to win the first gold medal of the world championships in the Chinese boxing history.

Zou held the best record for Chinese boxers, having won a silver medal in the last version of the tournament and a bronze medal at the Athens Olympic Games.

Opening the bout with a 9-0 run throughout the second round, Zou led all the way and extended the lead every round.

Zou used his left jabs to keep space to the small Bedak, who upset defending champion Sergey kazakov of Russia in the quarter-final.
