(Beijing, March 10) During the Opening Ceremony of the IV IOC World Conference on Women and Sport in Jordan on March 8, the International Women's Day, IOC President Jacques Rogge revealed the winners of the IOC 2008 Women and Sport Awards, a mix of political personalities and former top athletes selected by the IOC Women and Sport Commission from 70 candidatures submitted by the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and International Federations (IFs).
China's Li Lingwei, women's badminton champion in the 1980s with over 50 Grand Prix and international titles up her sleeve, won the 2008 "women and sport" trophy for Asia for being the catalyst to attract women and girls to her sport even after giving up active competition. (Photos courtesy of IOC)
