Working conference on winter Olympic preparation

(Beijing, 27 June 2011) A two-day working conference in preparation for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi was held by China's General Administratio of Sport in Beijing on 24 June 2011. Attending the meeting were Liu Peng and Xiao Tian, Minister and Vice Minister in charge of the GASC, leading officials from different GASC departments, physical education institutions, coaches and managers of national winter sports teams, as well as some 150 representatives from provincial, municipal and army sports organizations across China.

Zhao Yinggang, Director of the National Winter Sports Administrative Center, delivered a report on China's preparation for the next Winter Olympics just two years and seven months away. Sports Minister Liu Peng called on all sports departments concerned to do their bit for helping achieve China's Winter Olympic goal. The upcoming 12th National Winter Games to be held in Jilin in January 2012, Liu noted, will offer a good opportunity for Chinese winter Olympians to test their strength on ice and snow and help create an ideal environment for Team China's final spurt toward their goal.

The second day of the meeting saw group discussions held about China's long-term plan on winter sports as well as a detailed program by the National Winter Sports Administrative Center tailored to the current situation of winter sports in China. (Photos China Sports Online/Bai Yu & An Lingjun)
