6 June 2013 - The Duoba National Plateau Sports Training Base, located in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau 22 kilometers west of Xining, capital city of the remote western province of Qinghai, is the highest and largest training base in China as well as in Asia best for athletes' high altitude training in endurance sports events.

Surrounded by mountains and rivers, the Duoba base was built in February1982. Sitting 2,388m above sea level with an annual average temperature of 6.5 degrees centigrade, its average temperature is 13.7 in summer and -9.5 in winter. Since the 1990s it has been the training ground for China's national swimming, shooting and athletics teams, and over the years it has earned itself the name of both the "cradle of world champions" and a "factory of gold medals".
