2004 Olympic Day Run in China

To spread the Olympic spirit and mark the international Olympic Day Run, long distance running events were organized in China's Tianjin Municipality, Wuhan of Hubei Province and Yinchuan of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on June 20, 2004, drawing more than 20,000 runners of all ages.
Wang Jun, Vice-President of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sport, and Gu Yaoming, Secretary-General of the Chinese Olympic Committee, attended the celebrations in Tianjin and Yinchuan respectively.
The running in Tianjin lasted some two hours, with the participation of Olympic champions Sang Xue (diver), Zhuang Xiaoyan (judo), Zhang Shan (shooting), Liang Yan (volleyball) and Ge Fei (badminton). According to the organizers, IOC President Dr. Jacque Rogue, President of the International Olympic Committee, sent a message of greetings to the Chinese Olympic Committee for these meanful celebrations held just before the Athens Olympic Games.
