
23 Jun 2011, Phnom Penh, Cambodia: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia celebrated Olympic Day 2011 on Saturday, June 18, with a half-marathon of 21km and other races at 8km and 5km. His Excellency Thong Khon, NOC President and Minister of Tourism, addressed the audience at the end of the run.
“This event is organised by the Olympic Movement so that people all over the world can play sport and build up their strength and good health,” he said.
“The Olympic Day Marathon is a major event that involves the participation of thousands of people, and this event reminds me of the international marathons in big cities such as Sydney and New York.”
The Tourism Minister also appealed to the people of the Kingdom of Cambodia to be aware of environmental issues and to keep the city green and clean. (www.camnoc.org)
