27 Jun 2011, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The Olympic Council of Malaysia’s 2011 Olympic Day Fun Run will be held on Sunday, July 17 at Dataran Merdeka Kuala Lumpur from 7am. For the first time, the Olympic Day Fun Run will have a Group category of four runners, each running 5km and with the four runners finishing together.
The prize money for the Group category is RM800 for the winning group, down to RM200 for the group finishing fifth.
Also for the first time is the Family category, comprising two adults and between one and three children aged from seven to 14 years. Each team member will run 3km, and the family team (maximum five runners, minimum three) must finish together. There will be prize money of RM200 to each member of the winning family, down to RM50 to each member of the team finishing fifth.
Families that have registered five runners can finish with their three fastest runners in order to compete equally with families which have registered only three runners. However, the two runners who did not finish with the three-member team will not be eligible for the prize money but will be presented with a medal.
To date the response has been very good, with a total of about 5,000 runners having registered. Over 80 families and over 190 groups have registered for the run. The closing date for registration is July 7. The entry fee is only RM10.00. Entry forms may be downloaded from OCM’s website www.olympic.org.my.
