Olympic Day Run 2012 Sunil.
24 Jun 2012, Kathmandu, Nepal: The Nepal Olympic Committee conducted Olympic Day Peace Walk 2012 on June 23 in Patan City, Mangal Bazar,Lalitpur. H.E. Mr. John Tucknott, MBE, British Ambassador, was Chief Guest and inaugurated the event, and NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan presided. Almost 5,000 people took part, including students from various schools, Olympians, athletes, NOC-affiliated National Associations, police, army and media.
Executive Member, NOC Nepal, and Director of the Olympic Day Committee, Mr. Sunil Rajkarnikar, welcomed all the participants. The programme began with the national anthem, IOC anthem, flag-raising and the release of doves to symbolize peace. The ceremonial part of the opening began with the handover of the Olympic Torch by the NOC President.
The Olympic Day message of IOC President Jacques Rogge was delivered by Mr Bishnu Gopal Shrestha, Chairman, Sport for All, and Coordinator, Olympic Day 2012. The NOC President spoke of the significance of Olympic Day and thanked all sponsors, the British Council, Ncell, CM Developers P. Ltd. and Kantipur Brick Factory and specifically the official partner Coca-Cola Inc Nepal.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Mr. Yubraj Lama said the unity shown during Olympic Day could only benefit Nepal sport in the long-term. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by NOC Vice President Mr. Ganga Bahadur Thapa.
