Mongolia celebrates Olympic Day 2012

ULAANBAATAR, June 26, 2012 - The Mongolia NOC has solemnly celebrated Olympic Day, together with the 50th Anniversary of NOC's affiliation to the IOC, and Mongolian Athletes’ Day on June 23rd at Sukhbaatar Central Square in Ulaanbaatar.

Several sports events were organized to mark the occasion, as well as a farewell ceremony for TEAM MONGOLIA who are about to embark on their London Olympic campaign.

In attendance were H. E. Ts. Elbegdorj , Head of State , Mr. M. Enkhbold , Deputy Prime Minister and Chef-de-Mission , Dr. D. Zagdsuren , NOC President , Mr. Sh. Magvan , IOC Hon. Member, and Mr. Ch. Naranbaatar , Chairman of Physical Education and Sports Authority , Mr. OTO , NOC Secretary-General and President of Mongolian Sports Press Union , Mr. Charles Stuart , UK Ambassador to Mongolia and other dignitaries.

The President of Mongolia handed over a flag to marathon runner B. Ser-Od , who will be flag-bearer at the opening ceremony. The Mongolia NOC will be represented by 29 athletes in boxing, wrestling, judo, shooting, archery, athletics and swimming.

As part of the celebrations the NOC President hosted a reception at Olympic House for all Olympic medal winners since 1968.

The ceremonies were covered widely by Mongolian and foreign press. Mongolia will send 20 sports journalists from TV and newspaper to London. (By Jugder OTGONTSAGAAN, Secretary General Mongolia NOC)
