23 Jun 2013, Hong Kong, China: Organised by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, the 2013 Olympic Day Run was held on Sunday, June 23, at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. The Hong Kong NOC was honoured to have Mr Timothy Fok, NOC President, IOC member and OCA Vice President, and Mrs Betty Fung, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, officiate at the opening ceremony.
Government officials, elected officers of the NOC and representatives of the sponsors also attended. A full capacity entry of 5,000 runners included 26 corporate teams. Hong Kong’s National Sports Associations and top athletes also formed teams, running for fun in the 5.6 km route to set an example to the public in leading a healthy lifestyle.
Hong Kong celebrities Mag Lam and Hubert Wu and retired athletes also participated in the event to encourage the runners and share their sports experience with the Hong Kong citizens. After the fun run, a lucky draw took place with the Shun Hing Group, giving out Panasonic audio visual products, while Hong Kong Disneyland Resort presented multi-sets of one-day tickets as prizes with a total value of over HK$125,000.
To add a carnival atmosphere, game booths, magic, music and dance performances were also included in the programme. Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd., the Gold Sponsor, invited artist James Ng and badminton player Yip Pui Yin to play games with the participants and encourage them to share the fun of Olympic Day. The Hong Kong NOC has been organising the Olympic Day Run since 1987 to celebrate the formation of the IOC and to promote “Sport for All” in the community.
