12 Nov 2012, Tehran, Iran: The National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran reports on the success of the 5th Sports for All Festival from October 4-17, 2012. The festival was held on the occasion of the Physical Education Decade aimed at developing sport for all activities and solidarity among the public at large in a joint cooperation of two NOC sports commissions - Sports for All and Tourism - as well as the Sports for All Federation.
The opening ceremony took place in the city of Mashhad in the presence of sports dignitaries, including the honourable deputy minister for sports and youth, sports officials of Khorasan Razavi physical education bureau as well as the Iran NOC sports tourism commission delegates.
The athletes came together from 15 provinces and covered a distance of 1,000km on bicycles, skates and on foot, and were cheered and encouraged enthusiastically by the public on their way to Tehran.
The participants of this sports event arrived in Tehran - the National Olympic and Paralympics Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran – where the closing ceremony was held in the presence of Sports for All Federation officials and NOC dignitaries on Wednesday, October 17.
All participants received a special certificate issued jointly by the NOC and Sports for All Federation. The event and ceremonies received extensive media coverage. “We are confident that the reflection of such movements worldwide, particularly through recognised sports authorities, could greatly contribute to the cause of sport,” said Bahram Afsharzadeh, NOC Secretary General.
