Since China's first full-scale participation in the Olympic Games in 1984, the number of Olympic champions in China has reached 216 by the Beijing Olympic Summer Games in 2008.

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 Chinese athletes have obtained a total of 2,283 world titles at major world tournaments by the end of 2008.
