Since China's first full-scale participation in the Olympic Games in 1984, the number of Olympic champions in China has reached 259 by the London Olympic Summer Games in 2012.

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 Chinese athletes have obtained a total of 2,320 world titles at major world tournaments by the end of 2010.
