2nd Asian Summer Games: Manila 1954

The Capital of Philippines, Manila hosted 2nd Asian Games. The ideals of the Olympic Movement through the Asian Games were firmly bolstered at these Games with considerable increase in numbers of participating countries/NOCs (18) and participants (970). Although cycling was excluded, wrestling, boxing, and rifle shooting were added to bring the total number of sports to eight.

As for the gold medal tally, Japan led the record with 37, Philippines as the host country was 2nd with 10, and Korea doing well as a newcomer was 3rd with eight.
