It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times for 4th Asian Games held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The Asian Games Movement experienced severe strain when the Indonesian authorities refused entries of delegations from Israel and Taiwan. However, in the 13 sports contested among 1,545 participants from 17 countries/NOCs, 17 new Games records were achieved in athletics, swimming and other sports to prove that the Asian Games' indispensable role in promotion of sports in Asia.
