The Asian Winter Games are a smaller version of the Winter Olympics, a celebration of winter sports in Asia. Changchun 2007 was the first Winter Asiad that drew participants from all 45 member nations of the Olympic Council of Asia. It was also the second time that China hosted the Winter Asiad; the first was in Harbin in 1996.

The Games featured 47 events of 10 sports, namely cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, figure skating, snowboarding, alpine skiing, ice hockey, curling, short-track speed skating, speed skating and biathlon.

Host China ranked first in the medal table with 61 medals (19 golds, 19 silvers and 23 bronzes), followed by Japan with 36 (13-9-14) and Korea with 33 (9-13-11).
