The 7th Asian Winter Games were held in two cities of Astan and Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2011.

Featuring 11 disciplines of alpine skiing, bandy, biathlon, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, ski orienteering, ski jumping, speed skating and short-track speed skating, among which bandy and ski orienteering were non-Olympic, the 7th AWG saw the host country Kazakhstan making history by winning the most gold medals (32 of the 69 on offer) and the most medals in total (70) to leave their rivals way behind.

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, closed the Games in Almaty on February 6, 2011. The OCA highlighted the high standards of the Games and described the 7th AWG as “a great success for all,” where 10 new Asian records were rewritten.

China sent to the Games 129 athletes, including 86 Winter Asiad debutants. As a result, China finished in fourth place with 11 golds, 10 sivlers and 14 bronzes for 35 in total, following Japan with 54 medals (13-24-17) and Korea with 38 (13-12-13).
